A workaholic, colloquially, is a person who is addicted to work. This phrase does not always imply that the person actually enjoys their work, but rather simply feels compelled to do it. There is no generally accepted medical definition of such a condition, although some forms of stress, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder can be work-related. Although the term "workaholic" usually has a negative connotation, it is sometimes used by people wishing to express their devotion to one's career in positive terms. The "work" in question is usually associated with a paying job, but it may also refer to independent pursuits such as sports, music and art. A "workaholic" in the negative sense is popularly characterized by a neglect of family and other social relations.

Three Types of Workaholics - Which One Are You?

Work Addiction is a subset of Codependency, and the behavior of the addicts are working in childhood learned.

The Loser, the Workaholic, and the Home Based Business Opportunity

This is a fairy tale that takes place, Anytown, USA.

You know the characters. Both days are always dreams of a better life. A life free from work. A life free of debt. A life enjoyed by family.

Both go after their dreams, but in different ways.

Shortly after college degree, the workaholic offered his "dream job". Nine to five with holidays and two weeks vacation per year. The payment was not too much to start, but there were miles off him on the corporate management ladder. Everything he had to do was climb and a better life waited with step.

The each person has a similar offer to another company. The hours were a bit different, eight to four. Other than that, you could not really see the difference without reading the company outside the office.

Day after day, they both climbed the ladder. Then, after a few years ago, they both realized they were working 10 hours a day instead 8.

The workaholic pressed. "If I just suck it a few years, I am at the top with the life I want for my family," said the Workaholic.

The person took a different approach. He heard climbing. Instead, he spent his evenings building a house on the basis of the workaholic business.

When saw what was the loser, he ignored him. "These things never work! Throwing your money away! You'll never amount to anything!" , Said the Workaholic.

The person was in fact violated by these comments, but he pressed on. You see, at this point, which was a workaholic, more money than the losers, but the workaholic was spending all its time in work.

The workaholic kept climbing. He misses his children grow up. He was not there when it benefits the school. He was not there when they had birthday. He almost missed their graduation.

Every step of the way he was promised a better life, so he kept climbing. But with every step made him more a slave to be job.

Even if it was overloaded and expenditure over 12 hours a day at the office, he could not stop. If he did, he would be fired. Then would he do?

Sadly, the pension he was promised never came. The economy took a downward turn, or so he was told. The few years of financial security he had sacrificed his life ended for a illusion.

It would not much matter. The workaholic had pushed so hard that he had only a short time. When he realized his life had come to an end, everything he could think was, as he never really knew his family. He missed all major events in his children's lives.

Looking out the window, he saw what he thought was the loser in the park he was now old but still active. It was time with his grandchildren how he invested his own time in children.

The workaholic turned his back and had finally taken the view that perhaps the loser was really not a loser after all.

Workaholics and Burnout -Single Moms

In Western culture, it is simply caught in the hype of the fast current trends. It seems that there is not enough time to do what we wanted. Our lists are longer than our meals with our families. Sitting enjoy our families or nourish us will become a thing of the past. If we do not stop, look and listen to how we are really doing or feeling deep inside.

I am a single mother of a teenager, and I know from first-hand how about a workaholic. As a single mother brings me into a situation that super-woman. I have to cook, clean, organize, pay bills, go to work, take care of my daughter, the father absent, among other things, I suppose to do, or because of my situation, that a single dove in my career parent.

I as entrepreneurs to twelve years. I am a service-oriented businesses. My passion was to the needs of my customers and twelve years I have exactly this. The official weekly working time is 35 hours per week. In most countries of the world, it is limited to 45 hours per week. The trend during the last century seems to be clear: less work, more play.

Yet what may be true blue collar workers or government employees - is not necessarily so for white collar members of the liberal professions. It is not rare for these people - lawyers, accountants, consultants, managers, scientists - to put in 80 hour weeks. The phenomenon is so common and its social consequences, so damaging that it acquired the unflattering nickname for work, a combination of the words "work" and "alcoholism". Family life is disrupted, intellectual horizons narrow, that the consequences of the workaholic's health are severe: fat, lack of exercise, stress take their toll. As the "alpha" types, workaholics suffer three times as many heart attacks as their peers.

But what are the social and economic roots of this phenomenon?

How easy it can be to get caught with so much work that at the end. If you only need to do something productive and functional work to forget, then as a last resort, something clean. Or, a bunch of clean somethings. If it makes you happy, then do it. I agree with nuts and the Organization of the housework, when the urge hits productivity, not stopping until the project is fully completed. Cleaning up in the house, or working in the yard can be a good way to burn off steam and have something to show for it later. Go ahead, vacuum, dust and polish or mow your heart's desire. Physical activity is always positive effect on your heart and mind. Sustained exercise can also contribute to the production of natural feel-good chemicals called endorphins in your body. This may hurt the feelings of fear and depession. Combined with the proper eating habits, you sit down for a good week of work by rejeuvenating your mind and body in the same time.

Forgetting work for a while, not irresponsible or careless. My family tends to think workaholic. I know first-hand how difficult it may be for someone who usually for thinking about the work to relax. Treat yourself to a mini-vacation and improve the quality of your life by diverting your attention to something else. In the end, your family as a whole will benefit. One person, rested and happy is a lot more pleasant around. We have only one life, so it is important to stop and smell the roses. The work is not everything, even if it sometimes feels this way. Go ahead, curious away from the desktop, you can do it. And at the end, you will be glad that you did.
